School-Based Decision Making Council
School-Based Decision Making Council
Any aspects of CMMS are governed by a School-Based Decision Making council. The council consists of four teachers and three parents all elected by their peers on a yearly basis. The council is chaired by the principal. Council meetings are held the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 4:00 pm in the school media center and are open to the public, except where executive sessions are allowed by Kentucky law. Councils make the policy in the areas of:
- Curriculum
- Staff assignment
- Student assignment
- School schedule
- School space
- Instructional practices
- Discipline/classroom management
- Extracurricular programs
- Standards alignment
- Committee participation
- Hiring (the principal makes hiring recommendations to the superintendent after consulting with the council. The council recommends to the superintendent who should be hired as principal.)
- The council adopts the school budget and makes decisions regarding a portion of teacher professional development.
